Our goals as an organization include:
UCGSA had it's first meeting on October 23, 2014 (Mole Day!). The graduate students in the chemistry department wanted to unite in order to improve our ability to collaborate with each other and with faculty and staff in the department. We became a registered student organization at UCF in January 2015 and have been very successful in communicating with not only our department, but our university.
Long ago, I talked to my middle school teacher, also head of the after-school science club, about light bulbs. Naturally, she went over the incandescent bulbs made of tungsten. A week later, we were at a science competition, and one of the questions was about the filament used in old bulbs. I got the answer correct because a STEM role model took the time to have a chat. So, W, tungsten, is my favorite.
The chem building would be brought down to the foundation to be rebuilt. This has become an issue that is unfair to teaching assistants, faculty, and students. Remodeling rooms and installing new boilers seems to be a poor stop gap for larger problems due to the age of the building.
Spit! A no-fog solution for scuba diving masks. It works perfectly for a good 3 hours with safety goggles.
Rainbow Springs. I'm a Florida native, and I adore our springs. Rainbow Springs has a one-hour lazy river. You can rent an inner tube or bring your own to glide slowly in the sunlight through crystal-clear waters.
Writing Science: How to Write Papers That Get Cited and Proposals That Get Funded by Joshua Schimel. I enjoyed the real world examples. It also gave me a better descriptor for why some publications seemed to be easier to read than others.
Graphics and Data Presentation for Science. It would go over aesthetics, design, and artistry of evidence presentation for non-artists to understand. There's a science to making data look good.

My favorite element on the periodic table has become iodine (I). Throughout my PhD, I have worked extensively with iodine, and have had to adapt to the many complex behaviors that it exhibits
If I had a magic wand, I would create more parking for all of the students here on UCF's campus. Maybe even make parking permits significantly cheaper. There should also be a designated parking area for graduate students that work on campus, similar to what there is for faculty.
The most unusual item that I currently have in my backpack is a pot of crocheted lily of the valleys to put on my desk. This is to replace the live plants on my desk, since my research group is moving to a new lab space where the office desks are in the lab.
If I could teleport to anywhere in the world for a one-hour study break, I would teleport to Yosemite National Park. I visited there during one of my internship programs at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and there are so many pretty and peaceful areas where you can just sit outside and enjoy nature.
The most memorable project I ever had the opportunity to work on was during my most recent internship at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where I was using sediments taken from the Nevada National Security Site to investigate the mobility of plutonium in the environment. These sediments are specifically from the area of which the Trinity nuclear bomb was tested, which released plutonium into the environment. It was incredible to see a real-world situation of which my research is involved.
My favorite element on the periodic table is Tungsten. It's a very fun element to say and is a material that has quite the chemical properties
With a magic wand in hand, one change that I would make to the college of graduate studies is that I would make information more transparent and communicated better.
The most unusual item in my bag at this time is a textbook on the Tropical Rainforests of North Queensland.
For a one-hour study break I would teleport to Tasmania
A fact that most people would not know about me is that my favorite music genre is Dark Trap.
